began Pilates instructor training in 2002 with Body Control, then studied with Helge Fisher, a cofounder of Body Control, and with Kelly Kane in New York at the Kane School of Core Integration, gaining my full studio qualification. Their approach and background as manual therapists, combining sound anatomy, biomechanics, joint alignment and touch skills, has given me a practice of working closely with the body using releases where necessary, to help you attain quality, ease and balance in movement.
Realising how much movement dysfunction is caused by bodily restrictions I become interested in the anatomy and influence of the myofascial web in the body undertaking the Structural Integration training developed by Tom Myers of Anatomy Trains at his school, Kinesis Myofascial Integration (KMI). I have also trained in Myofascial Release with Jing Advanced Masssage and am completing my Certificate in Advanced Clinical Massage with them. Myofascial manipulation and movement is now my main area of interest and development, particularly relating to painful conditions and recently attended the International Fascial Research Congress.
Myofascial bodywork and Pilates complement each other very well. We tackle the same postural issues and imbalances but with a different set of protocols and the combination I am now able to apply with these two methods can be very effective especially in rehabilitation work.
I have also attended workshops run by Suzanne Scott of Pilates Foundation in conjunction with Performance Stability and use these techniques of movement assessment in my work.
My approach is to explain with patience allowing you to get connected with your body so you will understand the object of the movements to be able to monitor the results and feel the difference yourself.
I also draw from other mind-body disciplines such as Feldenkrais, the Franklin Method and Yoga all which share some of the same underlying principles. I am always broadening my knowledge of bodywork, anatomy and biomechanics with latest research and techniques applied to movement and Pilates.
