Richard Dickson

me4cmI first qualified in Pilates with Body Control, then continued with the renowned teachers Helge Fisher, a cofounder of Body Control and with Kelly Kane in New York, at the Kane School of Core Integration, gaining my full studio qualification. They gave me the insight to develop my own practice of really working closely with the body combining sound anatomy and biomechanics, incorporating touch and manual skills to achieve results.

Realising how much movement dysfunction is caused by bodily restrictions as well as muscle imbalance I become interested in the anatomy and effect of myofascia undertaking the Structural Integration training developed by Tom Myers of Anatomy Trains at his school, Kinesis Myofascial Integration (KMI). I have also trained in Myofascial Release with Jing Advanced Massage/Myofascial Release Clinic.

Structural Integration (SI), and any myofascial release work, and Pilates complement each other very well. We tackle the same postural issues and imbalances but with a different set of protocols. The additional anatomical depth helps to understand the Pilates movements and the combination I am now able to apply with these two therapies can be very effective.

Each session is individual, what you want at that time and what your body needs. My approach is to explain with patience allowing you to get connected with your body so you will understand the object of the movements to be able to monitor the results and feel the difference yourself.

I also draw from other mind-body disciplines such as Feldenkrais, the Franklin Method and Yoga all which share some of the the same underlying principles. I am always broadening my knowledge of bodywork and understanding  of body mechanics with latest research and techniques applied to Pilates.
